Important Notice: New .QA Domain Registration and Eligibility Requirements

Effective 22 October 2026, the Qatar Domains Registry has introduced updated policies for .qa domain registrations, renewals, and domain management.

These changes affect both new domain registrations and existing .qa domain holders.

Before registering or renewing a .qa domain, please review the updated eligibility and documentation requirements.

1. Who Can Register a .QA Domain?

Under the updated policy, applicants must meet the applicable eligibility requirements and provide supporting documents.

For individuals:

  • A valid Qatar ID (QID) or eligible Qatar residency document is required.

For businesses:

  • A valid Qatar Commercial Registration (CR) or applicable trade licence.

  • Alternatively, an eligible trademark registered in Qatar.

Important: Applicants must provide valid documentation demonstrating their eligibility to register the requested domain.

2. Existing .QA Domain Holders Must Also Submit Documents

The new requirements are not limited to new registrations.

Existing .qa domain holders must also provide the required eligibility documents.

If the documents have not already been submitted, Unitech may open a support ticket requesting them.

Customers must respond to the ticket and upload the required documents within the specified timeframe.

Failure to submit valid documents may result in the domain being cancelled or deleted by the registry.

3. What Happens After Registering a Domain?

When you register a .qa domain:

  1. Your registration request will be processed.

  2. Unitech will request the necessary eligibility documents through a support ticket if they have not already been provided.

  3. You must submit the required documents within the allowed timeframe.

  4. The documents will be reviewed for eligibility compliance.

Please do not ignore documentation requests or support ticket notifications.

4. Unable to Provide Documents? Request a Refund in Time

If you register a .qa domain but cannot provide the required eligibility documents, you must inform Unitech immediately.

Refund request deadline:

You must notify Unitech at least 16 hours before the end of the five-day registration period.

This means your request must reach us within approximately 4 days and 8 hours (104 hours) from registration.

This advance notice is necessary to allow sufficient time to process the cancellation and refund request within the applicable registry cancellation window.

Requests received after this deadline may not qualify for a refund.

Refunds remain subject to the applicable registry rules and successful cancellation.

5. What About .COM.QA and .NET.QA Domains?

The existing eligibility and documentation requirements for .com.qa and .net.qa domains remain unchanged.

Applicants must continue to provide the documents required for their respective domain categories.

6. Renewals and Domain Updates

The updated policy also affects existing .qa domains during renewal and certain domain management operations.

If eligibility documents are missing, Unitech may request them before processing applicable changes.

Customers should ensure that their registration information and supporting documents are accurate and up to date.

Important Reminder

Before registering a .qa domain, make sure you have the necessary eligibility documents.

If you already own a .qa domain, please check your Unitech support tickets and respond promptly to any documentation requests.

Failure to comply with the updated registry requirements may place your domain registration at risk.
